Introduction to Parvan (Mahalaya) Shraddha Puja
Parwan, also called Mahalaya Shraddha, is a Hindu ritual performed during Ashwin Krishna Paksha to remember and worship departed ancestors, including forefathers up to two generations. It involves offering pindas (rice balls), water, sesame seeds, and prayers to ensure their peace, seek forgiveness for any shortcomings, and invite their blessings for the family.

पञ्चगव्य (Panchagavya), केशरी (Yellow Pigment Powder), कांचो धागो (Raw Thread), श्रीखण्ड (White Pigment Powder), सेतो कपडा (Red and White Cloth), पहेंलो कपडा, पीताम्बर (Yellow Cloth), जौ (Dried Barley), कालो तिल (Black Sesame Seed), गोकुल धुप (Incense), ५ वा ७ सुते कातेको बत्ती (Cotton Wick), सरसिउं (Yellow Mustard), कुश (Dried Holy Grass), जजन्का (Coloured Thread), जनै (Holy Thread – 5 Pieces), सुपारी (Dried Betel Nut – 5 Pieces), ल्वाङ, सुकमेल (Cloves, Cardamom), कपुर (Camphor – 1 Packet), तुलसीपत्र (Dried Holy Basil Leaves), पंहेलो रामनामी वस्त्र (Yellow Shawl) *Please look for the Puja Packet in a nearby Nepali Puja Shop.
